History

Brett Samuel (now joint president) was inspired to create Safety Thirst in March this 2010 after watching a TED presentation by George Whiteside (We owe a heavy debt to George Whiteside for the initial inspiration).

In the presentation Whiteside explains a “dirt cheap” medical diagnosis technology he created for people in developing countries.

Brett’s travels in Cambodia, combined with his experience in the swimming pool industry led him to think about how a similar approach could be used to eradicate the problems caused by unsafe drinking water in developing countries.

Brett presented the idea to his business partner Peter who suggested that they apply their proprietary Newton’s Nerds information technology development processes to realise the Safety Thirst idea. Despite having many issues that need to be worked out Safety Thirst has snowballed into a large project involving medical researchers, chemical engineers, statisticians, university professors, engineers, philosophers, hardcore programmers, and entrepreneurs.

Key members of the team at the moment include: Dr Niko Tiliopoulo, Valentina Cupac, Wei Ni Ma, Tim Scriven, Brett Samuel and Peter Evans.

People we want to invite on board soon include Dave Richards, Nicola Reiss, and Chris Hamer.
